When Darryl get's back from Comic-Con next week, things will be in full swing and we'll be roughing out a bunch of kool ideas we've been talking about. Our goal is to have a finished pitch package just in time for my visit to Los Angeles in Sept.

In the coming week's I'm planning on making contact with some of the networks in hopes to book a few meeting's with their development folks. Just incase, they want to see what else we have going on, we'll also be putting together a few extra show idea's. They include an idea I've had in my head for quite sometime that involves a team of mexican mask wrestlers who fight monsters which is an homage to the old Santo and Blue Demon sci-fi/horror films that I grew up watching. I'm sure we'll be posting some of this and a few other things in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, here are a few new character design's inspired by Big Daddy Roth.

Enjoy!

More of Kreepsville citizen's...

Two of Kreepsville's citizens. I wanted a gang of biker werewolves that's an homage to one of my all time favorite trashy horror cinamatic treat's from 1971 "Werewolves on Wheels". This is the first concept that Darryl came up with for the leader of the pack which has yet to be named.

We also thought it would be fun to feature a spook character that resides inside Kreepsville Manor. A character that's an homage to those 1940's gangster like ghosts with a Brooklyn N.Y accent and a brown derby that you would see in those old b/w cartoon's like "Casper the Friendly Ghost". Someone like many young boy's who spent their youth's reading horror comics, watching movies on late horror host shows, building monster kits, collecting trick-or-treating masks playing spooky old records, and who couldn't wait each year for Halloween.

I originally thought I wanted someone young, like pre-teens, but after having several chat's with Darryl, I thought it might be cooler story wise to make him a teenager, and yet still believe in monsters and not too old for trick-or-treating. Above are two design's for the character of 'Ed" that Darryl did after a brain storming session we had. As you can see I asked him to do two different ages for "Ed", an older and younger version. Personally, I dig the older version. I also wanted to see him wear a "Famous Monsters" like monster head shirt. The "Creature from the Black Lagoon" model kit and "Famous Monsters" magazine are all Darryl!

Couple More Von Kreeps....

...and an El Psycho too!

Some of the characters of Kreepsville U.S.A. have already had their likenesses drawn by other artists (amazingly well I might add), long before I stumbled into the picture. So it's very likely you'll be seeing several sketches for the same character, with slight to major changes, in order to explore shapes, sizes, and personalities.
I really look forward to having fun with Kreepsville, and seeing what happens, whatever the outcome. The ghouls like Von Kreep, Prof. Von Sasquatch and El Psycho were originally designed by artist David Hartman (aka Prof. Von Sasquatch) know for his work with the kreeper himself Rob Zombie, and all the ghoulies were all designed my girl friend Kup Kake (aka Gogo Vulnavia). Our only goal was to include all the stuff we grew up and are still into such as; old monster mags of the 60's and 70's like Famous Monsters of Filmland, Creepy, EC horror, horror and sci-fi flicks, midnite horror hosts, Lucha Libre, spookshows, spookhouses, Ed "Big Daddy" Roth ratfink/hotrods, The Munsters and of course all things Halloween! With that concept in mind we went crazy.

During that same time my sister and I Shohanna (aka Red Alice Tate) had 1313 Magazine issue #3 in full swing, so after Thea and I wrote the main story which was basically our twisted version of a Wacky Racers episode I decided to put the comic on the back burner, since I was still looking for the right artist to help us bring the visuals to undead life.

Now fast forward to around a month and a half ago. Being the toon head that I am, and growing up in the late 70's early 80's, I was exposed to some very kool cartoons that featured monsters and other spooky stuff like; "Beetlejuice", "Groovie Goulies", "The Flintstones" whenever they had "The Gruesome Family", "The Flintstones Meet Rockula", "The Real Ghostbusters", "Filmation's Ghostbusters", "Scooby-Doo" special's like "Scooby and The Ghoul School"...the list goes on. Regardless, now a day's there are some kool show's for kids and teen's with a fun kreepy twist like "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy" and "Danny Phantom" which I both love, but none are quite like the show's from my childhood. With that in mind, I took my original Kreepsville story and contacted two very talented and amazing artists in the animation industry British Columbia based Pat Pakula who's a background artist on Cartoon Network's "Atomic Betty" as well as "Ed, Edd n Eddy", and Chicago based Darryl Young who's a character designer/animator who animate's breakfast cereal T.V ads like Lucky Charms. Both jumped into the project very quickly and are very exited to collaborate together on this since we're all into monsters, plus we're becoming fast friends.

We've been very busy on this and decided a few day's ago to start a blog in hopes to gain some interest from industry folks, other artists and simply to get the word out. In the coming months Pat, Darryl and I will be posting featuring artwork and other goodies that we plan on featuring in the pitch package such as; main characters (including; Von Kreep, Red Alice Tate, Gogo Vulnavia, El Psycho, and Prof. Von Sasquatch), citizen's of Kreepsville, background's, and so much more!

At the top of the post is one of the first design's Darryl did of my character Doktor Viktor Von Kreep which was the first monster that David Hartman designed for me. This was one of the first version's of Von Kreep that Darryl sent me. I think it capture's what the character is all about. The mad-monster maker will be posting many more version's of old Von Kreep, plus other kreepy characters, so stay tuned!

Your pal,

Von Kreep
